FL Studio is one of the most popular DAWs (Digital Audio Workstation) for producing dance music right now, and developer Image Line has just launched the latest version called FL Studio 12 for the PC, with the Mac version already on the way (you can still check out the existing beta version here). Included in this major update is a user interface that can take advantage of ultra-high definition 4K, 5K, and 8K displays, and multi-touch support for use with a touchscreen.
Updated stock plug-ins used for editing, mixing, and producing is also a highlight of this version of the software. As in previous editions, purchasing FL Studio 12 entitles you to lifetime updates of the DAW at no additional charge.
FL studio through the years
Starting out as sequencing software FruityLoops in the late 90s, FL Studio has matured exponentially through the years, and is the DAW of choice for many EDM producers today. It used to have a reputation as being a 'beginner's' software, although this image is constantly being shed as more and more serious producers turn to FL Studio as their platform of choice for making dance hits.
Despite it's beginner-friendly appearance, it's deceptively powerful, as evidenced by the work created by producers like Madeon and Avicii. At the moment it's still a Windows-only app, though Mac users will get a taste of it later on this year as Image Line has promised an OSX version in the works.
• FL Studio 12 is available now in three different versions: Fruity for US$99, Producer for US$199, and Signature for US$299. Check out the Image Line website for more details.
